This is a historic and unprecedented occasion as no British monarch has ever reigned longer than the Queen, indeed most of us were not even born when she acceeded to the throne back in 1953. All kinds of things are happening, both nationally and locally; the official jubilee pudding has been chosen (a lemon and amaretti trifle which sounds delicious); the official emblem for the Jubilee was designed by a graphic design student from Nottinghamshire; and Lincolnshire’s famous Red Arrows will join a flypast of over 70 aircraft over Buckingham Palace.

There are many events taking place across the country: picnics, street parties, exhibitions, trails, beacon lightings, festivals and more. Why not support an event near you? It’s a great excuse to relax, enjoy some food and drink, and spend time with your friends and family!

Get involved with a Platinum Jubilee event in your local community

So how can you get involved? We know that many schools are holding events on the last day of term so if you have school-age children that is an obvious choice. There’s bound to be something happening at your local social club, village hall, or recreation ground – a good way to get out and soak up the atmosphere in your local community. And some people will be lucky enough to have a party on their street – a great opportunity to catch up or get to know your neighbours – and no need to worry about driving home!

There are many Big Jubilee Lunches being organised, find one near you here.

We’ve also compiled a shortlist of websites containing details of events in our local areas, and social media is always a great way of finding out what’s happening near you.

Without wishing to tempt fate, the weather looks set to be promising. However you mark the occasion, we hope you have a great Bank Holiday weekend!
