Marton is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire. The population of the civil parish (including Gate Burton) was 747 at the 2011 census. It lies on the A156, 5 miles (8 km) south from Gainsborough, and 11 miles (18 km) north-west from the county city of Lincoln. The parish touches Brampton, Gate Burton, Sturton by Stow, North Leverton with Habblesthorpe, Cottam, Sturton-le-Steeple and Willingham. The land is situated in the centre of the village fronting onto the high street with open fields to the rear. The closest town Gainsborough is an historic market town in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire with a population of approximately 22,000. Gainsborough is also close to the Doncaster Finningley Robin Hood Airport and the London North East railway service to Kings Cross and Doncaster stations. Gainsborough has undergone major regeneration in recent years, with the £39 million Marshall’s Yard development with all phases having been completed including 100,000sqft of retail, 50,000sqft of offices together with leisure, trade counter and apartments with secure parking.
