John Frederick Pygott 1935 - 2007Our Founding Partner John Frederick Pygott Sadly passed away on 30 December 2007.
Born in Scunthorpe, John spent his early years with his grandparents in North Kyme due to the war. John then attended Carre's Grammer School in Sleaford, from which he joined the old established firm of Earl and Lawrence at the age of 17. John qualified as a chartered surveyor, progressing to senior partner until the practice was sold to Prudential Property Services in 1985 when he was appointed an area director for Lincolnshire, Humberside and parts of Nottinghamshire having 15 offices under his control.
After five years, when the Prudential business ceased, he purchased the agricultural and professional practice for the East Midlands and established himself in 1991 as Pygott, Daykin and Co after Clayton Daykin (one of his former partners), being helped at first by Cedric Daykin, son of Clayton and a former partner. Today the business of Pygott and Crone is conducted from 9 offices served by 9 partners and employing over 140 staff.
John Pygott remained until his death as the senior partner and headed the agricultural division. He was a member of the RICS and a South Lincs Valuer.
Senior Partner Kevin Scrupps comments "He was a highly respected man who taught so many of us to conduct ourselves the right way in business. He was always professional and caring." John Pygott was always active in the community, at one time running the Army Cadet Force in Billinghay and fund raising for the new village hall in Billinghay, which opened in 1961. He was a member of Billinghay Young Farmers which was where he met his wife Jennifer.
He was also a founder of Woodhall Spa Round Table. One of his proudest associations was with LIVES, of which he was a founding member, later becoming vice chairman. He was also the organist and treasurer for St Luke's Church, North Kyme.
His other main interest was salmon fishing and he enjoyed many hours on the River Tweed, Dee and Spey. Cars were one of his passions and he bought his familiar JP22 number plate at the age of 22.
Family were always very important to John, including John's most recent grandchildren Joel, aged 2, and Lois, 10 months. He also leaves his son Ian, his partner Sandra and their two other children, Jade and Owen.
John will be very much missed by all at Pygott & Crone and no doubt many others John dealt with in his long and successful life.
